International Baccalaureate (secondary education) seeks a Curriculum Subject Area Manager Physics
The Diploma Programme is designed as an academically challenging and balanced programme of education with final examinations that prepares students, normally aged 16 to 19, for success at university and life beyond. The programme is normally taught over two years. IB Diploma Programme students study six courses at higher level or standard level chosen from each of groups 1 to 5 to provide breadth of experience in languages, social studies, the experimental sciences and mathematics. The sixth subject may be an arts subject chosen from group 6, or the student may choose another subject from groups 1 to 5.
This role will be in the Diploma Programme curriculum department as a curriculum subject area manager in groups 4 and 5 (experimental sciences and mathematics) to support the development and management of the physics and mathematics curriculum. The physics curriculum review is just beginning, so the post will be an exciting opportunity to guide and shape a new physics curriculum for the IB Diploma Programme.
Curriculum subject area managers are responsible for leading and managing curriculum research, review and development for a number of subjects, producing the course guides, teacher support material and professional development materials for teachers. The post holder will work alongside the DP assessment team and closely with other departments within the IB, and also with external educators such as teams of teachers, examiners, consultants and others.
Requirements:
• A qualification at degree level in physics with experience of teaching mathematics
• Significant experience in teaching physics at the 16-19 age range in any environment, IB or otherwise. Experience in curriculum design and development and/or educational research
• An understanding of current developments and trends in education
• Excellent organizational and analytical skills
• Excellent communication skills in English and the ability to communicate in another language is desirable
• Accuracy and meticulous attention to detail
• An ability to work in teams with internal and external stakeholders in face to face and electronic collaborative environments
• Experience of using relevant IT packages including the ability to use a variety of desktop applications
• Ability to prioritize work over diverse timelines and meet tight deadlines
• Ability to work independently under electronic remote management.
Start date and Salary
January 2011 or earlier if possible. Salary: 46,000 – 60,000 Euros per year, dependent upon experience.
Location
The post will be based in The Hague, the Netherlands. An international hire package will be available to assist a successful candidate to relocate to the Netherlands. The position will involve some international travel.
